Description: Incorporating more fermented foods into our diets can help with digestive ailments, improved immune function and more. In this class, you will learn about the nutritional benefits of fermented beverages, and Laura will demonstrate how to make four different beverages: kombucha, water kefir, beet kvass, and lacto-fermented ginger ale. Join us to learn the basics of fermentation, including how to ferment various vegetables and beverages. Make sauerkraut, lacto-fermented pickles, kefir, kvass, and more. The health benefits of fermented foods, a brief introduction to the microbiome, and how to incorporate these foods into your daily life will be discussed. All supplies provided.

Easy DIY Cultured Dairy @ Viroqua Food Coop Community Room
Fermented dairy products provide lots of nutrition and probiotic bacteria to our diets. The culturing process also makes them more digestible for many as well. In this class, you will learn about the benefits of consuming cultured dairy products and Laura will demonstrate how to make three different fermented dairy items: yogurt, kefir, and creme fraiche. Participants will get to try several ferments and take home the recipes and a grocery list for making these foods at home.

Fermented Vegetables 101 @Viroqua Food Coop Community Room
Adding in more fermented foods to the diet provides many health benefits, as well as allows us to put up our harvests while keeping the nutrients in the vegetables intact. In this class, Laura will demonstrate three techniques for fermenting your own vegetables at home: sauerkraut, kim chi, and lacto-fermented pickled vegetables. Participants will get to try these items, and will take home recipes and receive a grocery and supply list to make them at home.
